Bedford Park’s original housing stock was built mostly in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. This was possible because in 1890 the Metropolitan Street Railway expanded its streetcar line northward to service Bedford Park. That same year Bedford Park, no longer a remote outpost, would amalgamate with the Town of North Toronto which would ultimately be annexed by the City of Toronto in 1912. A period of rampant land speculation was then followed by registered plans of subdivision that would create the current residential neighborhood. Bedford Park has a good mix of detached and semi-detached homes. However, many of the bungalows in the neighborhood have recently been torn down and replaced with custom designed houses.

Bedford Park is known for arts/culture/recreation/sports and is a diverse neighborhood with many spoken languages, Tagalog being the top.  (Source: City of Toronto )

The neighborhood is appealing young families and children. Bedford Park has an excellent selection of schools, many parks and playgrounds, a library, a community center and very accessible to Toronto’s transit system (TTC). This neighborhood is an uptown shopping destination, (Yonge Lawrence Village).  It is earning its reputation as a happening, tight-knit community with a diverse offering of culture, food and fun. It’s time we prove to the “downtown” crowd that “uptown” does not mean “uptight”!

Teddington Park

Located along the Yonge Street corridor, Teddington Park is convenient, however, it is remarkably quiet thanks to its natural boundaries which include the Rosedale Golf Club and the Riverview Drive Ravine. What makes this neighbourhood unique is that Teddington Park is one of the smallest and most exclusive districts in Toronto. Over the years many important and influential Torontonians have called this neighbourhood their home. And interesting fact is that Teddington Park’s older houses on Riverview Drive were originally given descriptive names such as ‘Donnybrook’, ‘Silverwood’, and ‘Treetops’. These names were in leu of municipal addresses, which were not issued until sometime after the houses were built. Some of these houses still display their historical names.
